Monday 30th January – Friday 3rd February 2023
Join Vicki for five days of nyckelharpa playing. Workshops will include mostly Swedish music, ensemble playing and some optional technique sessions. This course will run alongside Jonny’s Scandinavian Accordion week and we will come together in the evenings. For more information contact Vicki Swan 07721 519719.
This course is slightly longer than the weekends and will include some time for 1-to-1 learning, ensembles and even a quick trip up to the top of the Quantocks.
Who’s it For?
Nyckelharpa players wanting to immerse themselves in a week of playing Swedish music. Also open to fiddle players (any technique work will be aimed at nyckelharpa players as Vicki doesn’t play fiddle – but will be suitable for either instrument).
Vicki Swan is well known across the UK and beyond as one half of folk duo Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer. Once known mainly for for their instrumental skills with Scottish smallpipes, accordion and Swedish nyckelharpa, they are now gaining recognition as impressive song arrangers and writers.
Vicki, who plays an assortment of less-than-mainstream instruments (Scottish smallpipes, Swedish nyckelharpa, English border pipes, Swedish bagpipes and more) is very much at the forefront of the current surge of interest in the Nyckelharpa in the UK. She plays as a member of the European Nyckelharpa Orchestra, runs Nyckelharpas at Halsway, founded the Nyckelharpa Project. She also teaches internationally at festivals and events.
