When I took up the nyckelharpa I had just finished my masters degree in education and I feel inspired to keep researching. So since 2012 I have been running some longitudinal research on the take up of the nyckelharpa in the UK. This is still running – so if you haven’t answered my questionnaire I’d love you to fill it in! The questionnaire is at the bottom. One day I’ll write it up into a proper paper – but in the meantime here are a couple of graphs for you!
My data tells me that it is likely we’ve been more than 180 players. Six of whom I’ve not managed to reach for data and nineteen have given up. Nineteen have given up giving a total of 155 current players. But I know there are people out there that I haven’t reached! I’m gathering data for 2025 – so watch this space!
